Aurelian Order
Strategy & Program Design
What does strategy and program design mean at Aurelian Consulting?
Aurelian Consulting designs strategy and the programs that carry it: the decision, the sequence, the resourcing and the measures, written down before the first dollar or the first hire is committed. Most strategies fail between the slide and the schedule. Aurelian Consulting treats strategy and program design as one exercise: what is being decided, what has to be true for it to work, which programs deliver it in which order, and what would tell you early that it is not working. The output is a program the board can fund and the executive team can run, not a vision statement.
Decision framing: the question actually being decided and the trade-offs it forces. Program architecture: workstreams, sequence, owners, dependencies and gates. Resourcing and capital plan tied to the program, not the other way round. Leading indicators and stop rules agreed before launch.
No success fees. No outsourced executive authority. No confidentiality compromises.

Restoration, Not Expansion
Aurelian takes its name from Emperor Aurelian, whose reign was defined not by expansion but by restoration: the re-consolidation of fragmented systems and the stabilisation of institutions under pressure.
That is the posture the practice brings to a company under strain: coherence first, then growth.
What Strategy & Program Design means in practice
Our Practices
Two practices, each available in every market we serve.
Practice
Corporate Advisory & Consulting
Aurelian Consulting provides independent corporate advisory for boards, founders and executive teams facing decisions where the margin for error is narrow. We examine the question actually being decided, the constraints around it and the second-order effects, so leaders commit with clarity rather than urgency.
Practice
Capital Raising Financial Restructuring & Corporate Consulting
Aurelian Consulting advises companies raising capital, restructuring their finances or resetting their corporate direction. We work alongside founders, boards and lenders to frame the real options, test the assumptions behind each one and prepare the position before the market, the bank or the counterparty is approached.
Questions about Strategy & Program Design
Do you run the program after designing it?
No. We design it, help select who runs it, and can review it at the gates. Execution authority stays with the executive team; that separation is what keeps our counsel independent.
How long does a strategy and program design engagement take?
Typically four to eight weeks from the confidential briefing to a written program, depending on how many decisions are still open when we start.
Is this only for large companies?
No. The method is the same for a founder-led company committing its first serious capital and for a board resetting a listed business. The scale changes; the discipline does not.

Doctrine
Framing the Decision
Matters brought to the Order are framed before they are assessed. Framing establishes the boundary of the decision: what is being decided, what is not, and where responsibility ultimately sits.
Facts are separated from assumptions. Constraints are identified as structural, behavioural or temporal. The Order does not rush toward answers; it ensures the question itself is correctly formed. Most failures of insight begin here.
Our Guiding Principles
The Aurelian Order is grounded in discretion, integrity and trust. We operate with loyalty to those we serve and empathy for the human realities behind complex decisions. Strength comes from collective judgement, drawing on deep knowledge, hard-earned experience and a trusted network built over time.
Clarity before commitment
The decision is defined in writing before any advice is given.
Consequence before convenience
Second-order effects are examined even when the first-order answer is obvious.
Independence before narrative
No success fees, no placements, no interest in the outcome beyond its soundness.
Discretion as a default
Engagements are confidential from the first conversation.
What We Do Not Do
Selective Engagement
We do not accept every enquiry; the Order determines which matters warrant collective counsel.
Beyond Conventional Advice
We do not engage on matters within the competence of conventional advisers, financial institutions or standard solutions.
No Advisory Competition
We do not compete with consulting firms or advisers; we convene only when rare, collective expertise is required.
No Ongoing Mandates
We do not provide ongoing advisory or execution services; counsel is focused, independent and deliberate.
